Activate Out of Covid

My friends and I have had conversations about how the isolation we felt during Covid is hard to move past. Our old schedule and community involvement don’t seem natural now. It is difficult to determine just what to do. Getting back to the workplace or volunteer efforts seem challenging.

I don’t know about you, but when I want to find an idea that is going to excite me and rev up my passion, I sometimes look for inspiration online. While browsing the web this morning, I was struck by this quote from YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki:

“Rarely are opportunities presented to you in a perfect way. In a nice little box with a yellow bow on top. ‘Here, open it, it’s perfect. You’ll love it.’ Opportunities – the good ones – are messy, confusing and hard to recognize. They’re risky. They challenge you.”

Am I looking for an opportunity in a nice little box with a yellow bow on top before I activate myself out of Covid? Activate means to trigger or set in motion. It seems like the perfect word for getting out of the place of lethargy or inaction some of us feel stuck in.

Uncertainty, change, confusion about what to expect are certainly daunting, but staying stuck is not an option.

I have a very good friend who, while holed up in her home office, decided to move to a state where it will be easy to spend more time doing the outdoor activities she loves. Her plan to move started me thinking about significant change in my life and how we all might be facing a different future for one reason or another.

One thing I have chosen to do is literally move my body and get back to fitness classes. Aside from taking my coaching to the Zoom platform, I’ve used Covid time to write articles, blog posts and a white paper, and to research the newest ideas and movement in leadership. It has been fun, but my body has become stiff as a board. I’m going to activate myself back to Pilates.

What about you? Have you been thinking about what you really want to do for work or if you want to work at all? Maybe you’ve been asking yourself where your passion for volunteering is – politics, food distribution, pro bono counseling? The options are endless.

Recently, I received a message from the ether that what I need to do is clean out! And I’m not talking about closets, those I did at the beginning of lockdown. Rather, it’s time to eliminate what I don’t want, need or like and begin to focus on what I do need, want and love. That includes getting rid of thoughts and beliefs that no longer serve me.

How about you? How will you activate out of Covid?
